Iftika Shah is a businessman who has worked his way up through the transport world and now owns a successful haulage firm, Shah Transport Ltd, based in Birmingham. Taking delivery of his first new DAF XF tractor unit From Greenhous DAF in Willenhall, increases his fleet to 4 DAF trucks.
Shah, as he is known to his friends and commercial partners, has been a part of the transport industry for 20 years. 15 years ago he was working as a freight transportation consultant for AD Humpherson at the logistics company, Jigsaw Solutions based at Barden in Leicestershire. In 2012 he worked in transport logistics for DHL for a year, before deciding to move to CRH Training in Tamworth to undertake driver training for the driver CPC qualification. Shah was a qualified HGV driver and earlier in his career he had experience of teaching adults, so this came in handy. Shah became an Internal Verifier for the company ensuring the quality and consistency of assessment decisions in the training procedures and the resulting qualifications.
In 2014 he decide to start out on his own in the transport world setting up Shah Transport Ltd. He purchased a used DAF XF tractor unit and, as a qualified HGV driver himself, set out in container work in those early days. The Managing Director of Jigsaw Solutions approached Shah in October 2014 and offered him a contract to deliver white goods from Whirlpool in Northampton to various satellite depots around the country, including Grangemouth in Scotland, Wednesbury, Trafford Park in Manchester and Andover in Hampshire.
Business went from strength to strength as Shah increased his fleet with the purchase of three more used DAF XF’s, two of which were from Greenhous DAF in Willenhall. Now he has just bought his first brand new DAF XF from Greenhous and is delighted with the purchase.
Shah explains his delight at his new acquisition saying: “The business has grown and I am in a position to enter the new truck market now. Greenhous DAF have impressed me with their service. I have had no issues in my dealings with them and they have helped to build a fantastic relationship between us both. Nothing is too much trouble. I wish to thank Kevin Comerford for his help over the past 3 years and to Stuart Gaunt for organising this new purchase.
“It is important in our business to keep the drivers and trucks on the road and the 24hour/7day parts department and similar availability of servicing at Greenhous DAF certainly helps with that. Running a business is so different from anything else I have done. I have the responsibility for securing contracts, recruiting and keeping the drivers happy and things like accounts and administration to attend to.
“If things continue to progress as well as they have over the past couple of years I hope to be in a position to purchase another XF from Greenhous.”
