The family run firm, Upton Transport Services of Sutton Coldfield, have a unique way of branding their trucks with cartoon characters. Now their latest new DAF XF 530 Superspace is getting an eye-catching Toy Story make-over.

Phil and Gail Upton, along with their son, Jack, operate three companies from their Newlands Farm base at Hams Hall, adjacent to the Associated British ports Rail Freight Terminal.  Phil started in the business over 40 years ago and has always liked DAF trucks.  He says: “We thought we would celebrate being in operation as professional hauliers for 4 decades by purchasing a new DAF XF 530 Superspace and getting a special, bright and fetching livery on it.  The result is a spectacular success and is sure to be the topic of conversation among drivers in the trade.

“Cartoon characters have been a feature of our trucks in recent years with Scooby Doo, the Minions, Dennis the Menace and Cars among the characters we have on our trucks.  It is a bit of fun and brightens the cab.  People love to see the trucks at shows like Peterborough and the Convoy in the Park and line up to take photos.

“We have dealt with Greenhous DAF for over 20 years through their Willenhall dealership.  The service we have received is excellent and, as we maintain our own trucks here, we use Greenhous DAF also for our parts.  The XF is a fabulous vehicle and will be well looked after by its driver.  We have looked for the comfort value in the cab as well as the efficiencies on fuel.  The vehicle is well positioned in the market place.”

Phil Upton Transport runs vehicles within the Container Sector offering local and distance operations as well as covering general haulage including refrigerated deliveries for a large Supermarket chain, but still has the facility to cover International work. Since 2003, Gail has operated G. Upton Transport utilising container transport with the close proximity to Hams Hall. As for Jack, he has the family honour of receiving awards two years running at the DAF Apprentice of the Year Awards Ceremony. In 2016 he started his own business, Upton Transport Services, offering maintenance support for the 14 strong Upton fleet as well as other truck operators, including a mobile HGV and Agricultural breakdown service. He also has two car transporters which are in frequent use.

So if you see a bright yellow DAF XF truck on your travels take a closer look and admire the paintwork, it might just be Mark with Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and friends.
